Mark Twain lived in this extraordinary Victorian Gothic house from 1874 to 1891, the most productive years of his life — he wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court here. The house is a marvel of High Victorian excess: nineteen rooms designed in part by Louis Comfort Tiffany's firm, with carved woodwork, stenciled ceilings, and a conservatory added because Twain liked to breakfast surrounded by plants. The attached museum provides context on his life and times, and the house next door, where Harriet Beecher Stowe spent her final years, is included in combined tickets.
