Waterbury sits where Interstate 84 crosses Connecticut Route 8, so it is easy by car from Hartford, Danbury, New Haven, and the Naugatuck Valley. The downtown train station is on Metro-North's Waterbury Branch, with connections toward Bridgeport and New York.
For most visitors, a car is useful once you leave downtown. Buses cover the city, but sights, parks, and nearby towns are spread out.
