The Mattatuck Museum is Waterbury's clearest introduction, combining regional art with the history of the Naugatuck Valley. Its local-history galleries are the draw for travellers: brass, buttons, clocks, immigration, industry, and the complicated boom-and-bust story behind the city outside.
It stands by Waterbury Green, so it pairs naturally with City Hall, the Palace Theater, and a walk through the old downtown.
