Spring and fall are the ideal seasons for Amelia Island. March through May brings comfortable temperatures in the 70s, calm seas, and the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in early May. September and October are even better for avoiding crowds — the summer visitors have gone, prices drop, and the weather remains warm enough for the beach.
Summer (June through August) is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms most days and the occasional hurricane threat. The island does not see the spring break and summer crowds that overwhelm Florida's more commercial resort areas, but it is still significantly busier than the off-season. Winter is mild by northern standards — highs in the 60s, occasional cold fronts that drop temperatures to the 40s — and quiet enough to feel almost like a private island.
