No Name Key

No Name Key is connected to Big Pine Key by a short bridge and is accessible by car or bicycle. The island is mostly undeveloped — part of it falls within the National Key Deer Refuge — and it's one of the best places in the lower Keys to see Key deer up close, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon when they move through the pine rocklands to forage.

The two-lane road that runs the length of the island passes through habitat that has changed little since the Keys were first settled. Look for deer tracks in the sandy shoulders and listen for the rustle of birds in the buttonwood trees. The island also has a quirky local landmark: the No Name Pub, a dive bar that has been operating since 1936 and is plastered floor-to-ceiling with dollar bills signed by customers — said to number in the millions. It serves pizza and cold beer and is genuinely worth the detour.
