Mizner Park

Mizner Park is Boca Raton's most useful urban space: an open-air downtown strip with restaurants, shops, public art, and the Boca Raton Museum of Art at its north end. It is polished and planned rather than organic, but it gives the city a walkable centre that many South Florida suburbs lack.

Come in the late afternoon, when the heat drops and the cafés start filling. The plaza hosts concerts and events, and it is the easiest place in Boca to combine dinner, a gallery visit, and a short stroll without getting back in the car.

A story
Mizner Park is named for Addison Mizner, the architect whose extravagant 1920s Spanish-Mediterranean style helped sell Palm Beach County as a subtropical fantasy. The current development is much newer, but the arches, arcades, and theatrical tile roofs deliberately echo the image he created.
