May-Stringer House is Brooksville's most memorable building, a four-story, 14-room Victorian house with seven gables and enough gingerbread trim to earn its painted-lady nickname. It now houses the Hernando Heritage Museum.
The rooms mix local artifacts with period interiors: domestic life, military displays, a doctor's office, communications equipment, and Brooksville stories. Ghost tours trade on the house's haunted reputation, but the architecture and local history are reason enough to go.
