Destin is on US 98 between Fort Walton Beach and Panama City Beach. Most visitors arrive by car; traffic can crawl in summer, especially near the bridge and harbor.
The nearest commercial airport is Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport near Eglin Air Force Base. Pensacola and Northwest Florida Beaches airports are farther away but still practical for a Panhandle trip.
