Hobe Mountain is a sand dune within Jonathan Dickinson State Park that holds the unusual distinction of being one of the highest natural points in peninsular Florida — a fact that says more about the flatness of the Florida landscape than about any impressive elevation. At around 85 feet above sea level, the dune offers views across the scrub and river habitats of the park, and on clear days the Atlantic Ocean is visible to the east.
An observation tower at the summit extends the view further. The hike to the top is short and easy on a sandy trail through scrub vegetation. It is best approached as part of a broader visit to Jonathan Dickinson State Park rather than as a standalone destination, but the views and the curiosity of standing on what passes for a mountain in this part of Florida make it a worthwhile detour within the park.
