Robert Is Here

Robert Is Here is a tropical-fruit market, milkshake stand, petting zoo, and accidental Florida institution on the road from Homestead to Everglades National Park. The shakes — mamey, key lime, sapodilla, soursop, guanábana — are the main draw. They are made with whatever fruit is ripe that morning, blended thick with ice cream and milk.

The market sells dozens of tropical fruits you cannot find elsewhere, plus honey, hot sauces, and tropical jam. Out back there is a small petting zoo for kids and a covered seating area shaded by mango trees. A required stop, both on the way in and the way out.

A story
Six-year-old Robert Moehling started selling his father's surplus cucumbers from a roadside stand in 1959. Nobody stopped. His dad painted "Robert Is Here" in large letters on the sign, and people started pulling over. Sixty-five years later, Robert still works the stand most days.
