Shiver's has been smoking pork shoulder, brisket, and ribs in Homestead since the 1950s, surviving Hurricane Andrew, multiple changes of ownership, and the slow national homogenisation of regional barbecue. It is one of the last classic Southern barbecue joints in South Florida — wooden booths, sweet tea, paper plates.
The pulled pork comes with a thin vinegar sauce; the sides (collards, beans, mac and cheese) are competent rather than dazzling. Order the chopped pork sandwich and the burnt ends. Closes early; arrive before 8 pm.
