Jackson County Courthouse

A handsome 1916 Beaux Arts courthouse at the heart of Marianna's historic square

The Jackson County Courthouse, built in 1916 in a Beaux Arts style with a prominent dome, anchors Marianna's historic town square. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the centrepiece of one of the better-preserved antebellum courthouse squares in the Florida Panhandle.

The square around it retains some of the character of a 19th-century Southern market town — live oaks draped with Spanish moss, a small park, and the kind of quiet commercial district that small county seats maintain. It's a fifteen-minute walk and a glimpse of a pace of life that Florida's Gulf Coast resort towns have long since abandoned. The Battle of Marianna historical marker near the courthouse square explains the Civil War skirmish fought here in 1864.
