When to Go

The best time to visit is April–June and September–October: warm enough for swimming, without the full heat and humidity of midsummer, and outside the busiest tourist periods. Water temperatures allow comfortable swimming from May through October.

July and August are peak season: crowds on the beach, maximum heat (35°C, very high humidity), and peak prices. Hurricane season runs June–November, with the most active period August–October. Pensacola has taken several direct hits from major hurricanes including Ivan (2004) and Sally (2020). Winter is mild by most American standards (average January temperatures around 11°C daytime) but cool enough that beach visits feel hypothetical rather than practical.
