Burns Court Cinema is a small art-house theatre in one of Sarasota's nicest historic blocks — a 1920s Mediterranean Revival building in the Burns Court neighbourhood, a few blocks from downtown. It runs independent films, foreign films, and retrospectives rather than Hollywood blockbusters, and it has a loyal local following.
The surrounding Burns Court area is pleasant for a walk — a collection of Spanish-style buildings housing galleries, a wine bar, and a few cafes. The cinema itself is what you'd want in a beach town with cultural pretensions: a real repertory programme, a bar, and no multiplexes in sight.
