La Segunda Central Bakery

The country's oldest Cuban bakery, in business since 1915 and still making the long, flat, palm-leaf-topped loaves that are the foundation of a proper Cuban sandwich. The bakery turns out around 18,000 loaves a day and supplies most of Tampa's restaurants. The retail counter sells whole loaves, guava pastries, croquetas, and Cuban coffee. There is no seating beyond a couple of benches outside — most people eat in the car or take it back to the hotel.
