Water Ski Hall of Fame & Museum

The Water Ski Hall of Fame and Museum, located in downtown Winter Haven, documents the history of water skiing as a competitive sport and its deep connection to this part of Florida. The museum traces the development of the sport from Cypress Gardens' early shows through the professional circuit and Olympic recognition, with exhibits on equipment, technique, and notable athletes.

It is a niche attraction but genuinely interesting if you have any curiosity about how a small Florida city became the birthplace of a global sport. The building also contains the Hall of Fame induction records and a research archive. Admission is modest and visits typically take around an hour.

A story
Water skiing as a sport was effectively invented at Cypress Gardens, where Dick Pope Sr organised the first professional water ski shows in the 1940s. The sport spread from there to the rest of the world. For decades, Winter Haven and the surrounding Chain of Lakes were the undisputed centre of competitive and exhibition water skiing, producing world champions and hosting national tournaments. The Hall of Fame preserves this history.
