The Flint RiverQuarium on Pine Avenue is one of the few aquariums in the country dedicated entirely to a single freshwater river system. The centerpiece is a 175,000-gallon open cylindrical tank — the Blue Hole Spring, replicating a natural spring — visible from four floors, home to alligators, gar, catfish, and freshwater turtles.
The exhibits track the Flint River from its source under the streets of Atlanta to its confluence with the Chattahoochee at Lake Seminole, covering the ecosystems along the way. It's a well-done educational facility that works for adults as much as children, particularly if you plan to explore the river corridor or surrounding wetlands during your visit.
