Shipwreck Beach sits at Poipu's eastern edge, backed by a resort but facing a coast that feels much rougher than the main swimming coves. The surf can be powerful, so this is often a better place for walking, watching, and taking in the view than for casual swimming.
The beach is also the usual start for the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail. Walk past the cliffs in the morning before the sun gets harsh, and bring water: the scenery is open, dry, and exposed.
