Lower Salmon Falls Dam is a concrete gravity-type hydroelectric dam on the Snake River a few miles upstream from Hagerman. Built in the 1910s and expanded over subsequent decades, it is one of several hydroelectric projects that have tamed the lower Snake River. The dam creates a reservoir popular with anglers fishing for trout and bass, and the canyon walls above the water line are dramatic at any season.
Access is from a rough road off US-30. The area around the reservoir sees relatively little visitor traffic and makes a good spot for a quiet afternoon with a fishing rod or simply to watch the river in a stretch without the crowds that gather at more obvious sites.
