When to Go

The ski season runs from late November to mid-April depending on snow. February and March are the best months for conditions — the holiday rush is over, the snow is settled, and the days are long enough to ski full ones. December and early January are reliably busy and pricier; if you can avoid school holidays, do.

Summer runs from late June through September. The town empties for the shoulder season in April-May and October-November, when many restaurants reduce their hours and Baldy is closed except for occasional events.

July and August are peak summer — clear days, cold nights, and the Sun Valley Music Festival running free orchestral concerts at the Pavilion. The Wagon Days parade over Labor Day weekend is the town's biggest single event, an outsized celebration of the Wood River's mining and ranching past.
