Washington County Courthouse

The Washington County Courthouse is a handsome Neoclassical building dating from 1908, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It sits at the civic heart of downtown Weiser and gives the town's main square a sense of scale and seriousness that most towns this size don't manage. The brick construction and columned facade are well-preserved.

During festival week in June, the courthouse square fills with musicians and listeners. For the rest of the year, it's simply a good-looking building in a functional small-town setting.

A story
The courthouse was built in 1908 and replaced an earlier wooden structure that had served the county since Weiser's founding. The Neoclassical design was deliberate — small western towns used imposing civic buildings to signal permanence and respectability in an era when the population and the county seat itself were not yet secure.
