Central Congregational Church

The Central Congregational Church on Central Square is a fine piece of late 19th-century American Gothic church architecture, built in the 1890s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of several historically significant buildings concentrated in the downtown area around Central Square, which retains much of its original commercial streetscape.

The church's congregation has roots in the abolitionist founders of Knox College — the same community that made Galesburg a stop on the Underground Railroad before the Civil War. The building is not open to casual visitors but is prominent enough from the street to be worth noting as you walk the historic district.
