Galesburg's highlights are connected to two great Americans: Abraham Lincoln debated Stephen Douglas here, and Carl Sandburg was born here. The sites associated with both men are small and genuinely interesting, not the overwrought tourist attractions you might expect. Knox College's Old Main is worth seeing on its own terms as a piece of 19th-century American collegiate architecture.
