The University of Illinois dominates life in Urbana-Champaign, and most of what is worth doing is on or around campus. The UIUC campus is beautiful — a mix of Gothic limestone buildings, open quads, and more modern research centres — and it repays wandering. The cultural institutions are genuinely good, and the performing arts scene punches well above the size of the city.
