Indiana Limestone Company Building

The Indiana Limestone Company building on the north side of Bedford was the head office of the firm that dominated the local quarrying industry in the early twentieth century. The building is, naturally, faced entirely in oolitic limestone, with carved details that double as a sample card for the company's products.

It now houses part of the Bedford college campus, but the exterior is worth a look as a piece of corporate self-portrait. From here, the great blocks that became the Empire State Building, the Pentagon and the National Cathedral were sold and shipped across the country.
