Carroll County Courthouse

The Carroll County Courthouse on the central square is the great photograph of Delphi and one of the finest small-town courthouses in Indiana. The current building is the third on the site, completed in 1917 to a design by Indianapolis architects Bunting and Granberg in a restrained Beaux-Arts style — three storeys of buff Bedford limestone, a heavy classical entablature, and corner pavilions topped by stone urns.

The interior is the real surprise. A multi-level rotunda rises through all three storeys to a stained-glass dome above; the marble staircase, brass railings, and mosaic tile floor are all original. The historical society museum and a genealogical library occupy the basement. Open Monday-Friday during business hours; the historical society opens select afternoons. Free.
