Delphi Courthouse Square Historic District

The block-and-a-half of late 19th-century commercial buildings that ring the courthouse square — Italianate, Romanesque Revival, and Queen Anne shopfronts in brick and limestone, most still in commercial use. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and is one of the better-preserved small-town squares in central Indiana.

A free walking-tour leaflet, available from the historical society inside the courthouse basement, identifies the original purpose of each building (bank, dry-goods store, opera house, livery, undertaker). The square is best on a Saturday morning in summer when there is a small farmers' market on one corner, or in early December when the buildings are lit up for the Christmas in the Park evening.
