Café Patachou

A locally owned breakfast and lunch chain founded by Martha Hoover in 1989 that has become the city's signature breakfast spot. The original downtown Café Patachou on Pennsylvania Street is the easiest visit; there are now eight locations across the metro. Strong eggs, omelets, hash, pancakes, and an unusually serious coffee program.

The "owner's hashbrowns" with sour cream and chives are the order to remember. Open daily until mid-afternoon.
