Major Taylor Velodrome

Outdoor cycling track named for Indianapolis champion Major Taylor.

The Major Taylor Velodrome is Indianapolis' dedicated bicycle racing track, named for Marshall 'Major' Taylor, the Black cycling champion who became one of the world's great athletes at the turn of the twentieth century. The name alone gives the venue historical weight.

It is most interesting if there is racing, training, or a cycling event on the calendar. At other times it is a specialist sports facility, but for bike-minded visitors it connects Indianapolis to a remarkable local and international sporting story.
