Monument Circle

The circular brick-paved street that gives downtown Indianapolis its rare radial geometry, centred on the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. The four "quadrants" — the historic Hilbert Circle Theatre, Christ Church Cathedral, the Columbia Club, and a string of early-20th-century office buildings — make the circle one of the more architecturally coherent urban spaces in the Midwest.

In December the monument lights up as the world's largest Christmas tree (a string of 4,784 bulbs in 26 strands). Throughout the year the circle hosts free lunchtime concerts, food trucks, and the occasional protest or rally. The Hilbert Circle Theatre is the home of the Indianapolis Symphony.
