Newfields is the umbrella name for the 152-acre cultural campus that includes the Indianapolis Museum of Art (one of the ten largest in the country), the Lilly House (a 1913 Cotswold-style mansion), the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park, and the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse. The collection runs from Asian and African to European, American, and contemporary; the Neo-Impressionist holdings are particularly strong.
In December the gardens host the popular Winterlights walk-through illumination. Allow a half day for the museum alone, longer if the weather lets you walk the grounds. Free admission for children under 17; modest charge for adults.
