Oak Hill Cemetery

Oak Hill Cemetery is a nineteenth-century burial ground on the eastern edge of Lebanon, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Like many rural Indiana cemeteries from this period, it contains a mix of ornate Victorian funerary monuments and simpler stones that together map the first generations of Boone County settlement.

Historically significant locals including Civil War veterans are buried here. The cemetery is well maintained and a pleasant place to walk — the old sections in particular have the tall carved obelisks and ornate ironwork fencing typical of the post-Civil War prosperity that touched even small Indiana towns. The surrounding oak trees give the place its name and its atmosphere.
