Rensselaer sits about 80 miles south of Chicago and 90 miles northwest of Indianapolis, just off I-65 at exits 201 and 205. Amtrak's Cardinal line between New York and Chicago stops at the small Rensselaer station three days a week — convenient if the timetable lines up, but not a service to plan a trip around. Greyhound passes through on the Chicago–Indianapolis run. The closest commercial airports are Chicago O'Hare and Indianapolis, each around 90 minutes by car.
