The Billy Sunday Home is the preserved residence of William "Billy" Sunday, who was arguably the most famous evangelist in the United States in the first two decades of the 20th century. Sunday was a professional baseball player — an outfielder for the Chicago White Stockings and several other clubs — before he converted and became a preacher in the 1890s. By the 1910s, his revival meetings were attracting crowds of tens of thousands across the country.
The house in Winona Lake, where Sunday lived from 1911 until his death in 1935, has been preserved and is open for tours. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The interior retains much of its original character, and the exhibits give a good sense of the extraordinary phenomenon that was Billy Sunday's public career — the rhetoric, the theatrics, the anti-alcohol campaigning, and the sheer scale of the audiences he drew in an era before broadcasting. An unusual stop.
