The Museum of Amana History is the best first stop. It explains the Community of True Inspiration, the move from Germany to New York and then Iowa, and the daily routines of a society that owned property, work, and meals in common.
The displays are plain but useful: photographs, household objects, tools, and buildings that make the rest of the villages easier to read.
