The A.M.E. church is the second of the two surviving churches within the National Historic Site. The African Methodist Episcopal denomination had deep roots in Black America by the time Nicodemus was founded, and its presence here from the early years reflects the settlers' determination to transplant the full fabric of community life — not just farms and houses, but institutions — onto the Kansas frontier. The building was renovated in 2021 and is in better condition than it has been in decades.
