Russell Theatre

Atmospheric 1930s movie palace remembered for Rosemary Clooney's Maysville premiere.

The Russell Theatre is Maysville's showpiece downtown building, a 1930s atmospheric cinema with a Spanish-style facade and an interior designed to feel like an open-air courtyard. It is best known locally for hosting the 1953 premiere of The Stars Are Singing, starring Maysville-born Rosemary Clooney.

Restoration has been gradual, so check current access before planning around an event. Even from the street, it adds a glamorous note to Third Street and helps explain why the downtown is worth lingering in.
