Washington Historic District

Old county-seat village with frontier buildings and Harriet Beecher Stowe associations.

Old Washington is a preserved early Kentucky settlement just outside central Maysville. It was Mason County's first county seat, and its old buildings, museum sites, and quiet streets give a stronger frontier feel than downtown Maysville's later river-port blocks.

The district is linked to Harriet Beecher Stowe, who visited the area before writing Uncle Tom's Cabin. Come for a slow walk rather than a checklist; the appeal is the scale of the village and the sense of an older Kentucky still visible under the modern town.
