Local Cajun spots

Donaldsonville has local lunch counters, po'boy shops, and informal restaurants serving the everyday Louisiana repertoire: crawfish étouffée, seafood gumbo, fried catfish, red beans and rice on Mondays, boiled crawfish when they are in season (roughly February through May). The food is cheaper and less formal than Lafitte's Landing and in many ways more representative of how people in this part of Louisiana actually eat. Ask locally for current recommendations — places open and close, and the best spots are often the least conspicuous.
