Blue Moon Saloon

Back-porch venue for nightly Cajun and zydeco dancing

The most famous music venue in Cajun country, built into the back porch of an old guesthouse a few blocks south of downtown. The Blue Moon hosts Cajun, zydeco, blues, and Americana acts most nights of the week. The covered porch dance floor accommodates maybe forty people; you will be sweaty and stepping on someone else's feet by the third song.

Free dance lessons before some shows. The Wednesday-night Cajun jam — anyone can sit in — is one of the more authentic experiences in Louisiana. Cover charge is modest and the beer is cold.

A story
The Blue Moon is built into the back porch of a guesthouse so that travellers staying there can walk five feet from their room to a live zydeco band. The arrangement is famously informal — bands and audience often share the same beer cooler, and the dance floor empties between sets so dancers can grab another round.
