Lake Martin

Lake Martin is a cypress-and-tupelo swamp east of Lafayette, known for still water, Spanish moss, wading birds, and alligators. It is one of the easier places near the city to get a direct look at south Louisiana wetland scenery without planning a full-day expedition.

You can see some wildlife from the road and lakeside areas, while boat access gives a closer view of the swamp. Go quietly, keep distance from wildlife, and expect the best bird activity in the cooler parts of the day.
