Acadian Cultural Center

National Park Service museum on Acadian history and exile

Part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park, the Acadian Cultural Center is the most thorough museum on the Acadian story — the deportation from Nova Scotia in 1755, the wanderings of the next decades, the eventual resettlement along the bayous and prairies of southern Louisiana. Free admission, courtesy of the Park Service.

A 40-minute film, "The Cajun Way: Echoes of Acadia," gives the basics; the permanent exhibition fills in the rest with maps, artifacts, and oral history recordings. It sits adjacent to Vermilionville and pairs naturally with it.
