Mansfield State Historic Site

Mansfield State Historic Site preserves part of the battlefield where Confederate forces stopped the Union's Red River Campaign in April 1864. The site has a museum, interpretive trails, monuments, and occasional living-history programs.

It is the reason to come to Mansfield. The battlefield is compact, so read the exhibits before walking the ground; otherwise the quiet fields are easy to underestimate.
