A short stretch of West Street, west of downtown, lined with the surviving "cottages" of Bar Harbor's Gilded Age summer colony. Shingle-style houses with broad porches and turrets sit behind hedges with the bay glinting beyond. Most are still private, but the streetscape is the point.
The 1947 fire wiped out 67 of the larger cottages around the town; what survives is concentrated here and on a few side streets. A slow walk takes about half an hour.
