The Museums of the Bethel Historical Society occupy several buildings near the village centre, including the 1813 Dr. Moses Mason House and the 1821 Robinson House. The Mason House is the standout, with Federal architecture and period rooms that show the town before skiing and second homes became part of the local economy.
Look especially for the painted hallway murals associated with the Rufus Porter tradition. They give the house a sense of place that a simple furniture display would not.
