Ellsworth Public Library is more than a place to check email on a rainy afternoon. The building began life in 1817 as the Tisdale House, a Federal-era home built by Colonel Meltiah Jordan, and it still gives the town centre a dose of old Maine dignity.
Inside, the library keeps a strong genealogy collection, which is useful if your trip has roots in Hancock County. Even if you are not researching family history, it is an easy stop while walking between Ellsworth's older civic buildings.
