Catoctin Furnace

Catoctin Furnace is the surviving core of an iron-making village that supplied metal during the Revolutionary War and helped shape early industry in northern Maryland. The stone furnace stack and village remains give the site more weight than a roadside marker.

It is a worthwhile detour if you are heading toward Catoctin Mountain or Cunningham Falls from Frederick.
