Schifferstadt Architectural Museum

Rare German colonial stone house from the 1750s, preserved on Frederick's northwest side.

Schifferstadt is a small but worthwhile stop if you care about early American buildings. The stone house was built in the mid-18th century by German settlers, and its heavy walls, steep roof, and interior details show a different colonial tradition from the English brick houses more common on the coast.

Opening hours are limited, so check before going. Even from outside, the house helps explain Frederick's old German roots.
