The Waterman's Museum is a small wooden building on Sharp Street, beside Haven Harbour Marina, that tells the story of the people who have worked the Chesapeake Bay for crabs and oysters for the last two hundred years. The exhibits are a mixture of donated tools, photographs, and ship models — tongs, oyster shucking knives, crab pots, decoys, and a reconstructed waterman's shanty in the back.
Admission is free and the museum is volunteer-run, which means the docents are often retired watermen themselves with stories about the old days. Allow an hour. It is the only place in town that explains what you are looking at down at the harbour.
