Marblehead rewards aimless walking more than any other activity. The old town's streets are genuinely historical — narrow, twisting, and lined with 17th- and 18th-century houses still in private use. The Jeremiah Lee Mansion, one of the finest Georgian houses in New England, is open as a museum. Abbot Hall contains the original Spirit of '76 painting and is worth a visit for the building as much as the art. Fort Sewall, at the end of Front Street overlooking the harbour entrance, has the best views in town and is free. Crocker Park, tucked between houses near the water, is a small park with benches overlooking the harbour — one of those places that feels like it belongs to the residents but tolerates visitors. The Old Burial Hill cemetery above the town has graves from the 1600s.
